A commission for tigerboyjayce of his shadow dueling character.
This commission gave me soo many issues, I ended up scrapping the first go and restarting. I'm much happier with this one. There are a few things here and there that bug me, his legs...I couldn't get them to look right to me. Whats up? The color scheme I was going for didn't turn out the way I had planned. Originally it was all going to be stark contrast black and white with a rich red sky and blue here and there to tie it all in. The character wears a lot of blue. Again trying for something more dynamic. 'Trying' being the key word here. I'm getting better but I'm no where near the way I want to be. Lots of practice ahead. Critique good bad and evil is always accepted, dont feel like you will insult me. I need some straight frank critique. Keep in mind I will not go back and change this image but all critique is very helpful to me for future works of similar nature. Thanks for looking! DO NOT modify, submit, sell, trace, steal or use this image in any way without my direct permission! I take art thievery very seriously, ignorance will have no mercy. Comments

Seriously. It IS pretty. I could point out a half hundred similar splash page images through comic books (most of which sadly I've never had the pleasure to read). But this piece is an industry standard. It's well drawn, well colored, thought out and taken through to completion. You're not dealing with photographic quality - you just want to see a person do fantastic things in a story line that could be, on some level, plausibly real. (Or realistic from a story teller's point of view.) Being able to do this, from layout to pose to background design, is a notch in your artistic belt and a stripper's calling card. (Yeah, terrible job title I know.) I've always liked your art - it's just a bonus that it keeps getting better. (Now if only that economic stimulus thing would get here... you know it's heck having nines in your social security number.) k -- Be yourself. Just be. That is all you need to do to impress me. Bless, k Awesome details. I especially love every little thing about the character. The lines, the facial expression, the cloth folds, the contrast in colouring, the highlights. Awesome!
Nothing much to critique I think. Just that somehow I think the character blends in too well with the background and lacks a little focus. Doesn't look that bad in smaller view but looks a little camouflaged in fullview. And when full-viewed, the cables with blue high-lights attracts my eyes more than the character. (maybe because the contrast is higher) Aside than that, I totally dig the details. -- blog | facebook |
